A very popular cosmetic dentistry treatment, dental veneers can be used for either aesthetic purposes or to repair front teeth. Custom-made shells of ceramic material, dental veneers are bonded to the front surface of your teeth to cover up many different flaws and give them all the appearance and translucency of natural teeth.
The classic treatment for creating the famous “Hollywood smile” or celebrity smile makeover, veneers can be made to any shape or colour, so you and your dentist can design your new smile just the way you want. With dental veneers, many of our patients from Parramatta, Harris Park and Granville have achieved a perfectly aligned symmetrical white smile with a totally natural look.
Typically veneers are difficult to stain, making veneers a very popular solution for many people seeking that perfect smile. Strong and very durable, veneers last from ten to fifteen years, and are generally done in only two, one and half hour long appointments, and can actually strengthen your tooth.
It is common to have an adjustment period of a week or two to get used to your teeth that have been altered in colour, size, spacing and shape.
Minor tooth sensitivity may be experienced after your teeth have been prepared for your veneers whilst wearing temporary veneers. Some people also experience a difference in speech, usually pronouncing “s” and “f” sounds. This is corrected through minor adjustments made by your dentist and after you become familiar with your new teeth.
Preparing for your dental veneers treatment
Before your treatment begins, the Painfree Dentistry team will discuss your goals and expectations with you, to be sure we completely understand what you hope to achieve with dental veneers. You may wish to talk about the colour or shape of your teeth, or you may have questions about the procedure, which we encourage you to ask before we start your treatment.
The Painfree Dentistry Parramatta team will offer you a digital smile preview to demonstrate how your smile will look, before you go ahead with your treatment. We’ll also share our digital “before and after” shots with you, to help you imagine the results of your dental veneers in the same way we’ve helped dozens of patients from Parramatta, Harris Park and Granville.
Your dental veneers procedure
Once we’ve decided together to go ahead, your Parramatta dentist will thoroughly examine your mouth to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. We then prepare your teeth for veneers by removing a very small amount of tooth enamel, to ensure your new veneers will sit perfectly naturally on your existing tooth structure. You will be entirely comfortable during this process thanks to local anaesthetic.
We then use our advanced CEREC machine to take a precise 3D computerised image of your prepared tooth. Armed with this information, the CAD/CAM CEREC machine mills your new dental veneers from a block of dental ceramic in our on-site dental laboratory – in less than 30 minutes!
Your new veneers are then colour matched to your teeth by your dentist, to perfectly complement your natural smile. We then place your veneers on your teeth and perform any adjustments necessary, before they are securely bonded to your teeth with special strong dental cement.
Thanks to CEREC, this entire procedure can be completed within an hour – and you can then enjoy the wonderful feeling of showing off your dazzling new smile!
What can dental veneers be used for?
Dental veneers may be the ideal way to improve the appearance of teeth that have been affected by many different problems. For example, over time your natural teeth enamel can become worn and stained as you age, either due to tooth grinding, poor oral hygiene, smoking, or drinking soft drinks, tea or coffee. You may have genetically crooked or gappy teeth, or you may have suffered damage from a sports injury or other trauma. All these issues can be corrected with the help of dental veneers.
And as well as making your teeth “look good”, veneers can also protect damaged teeth, in much the same way as dental crowns. The advantage of veneers over crowns is that is that because they are so thin, they need very little tooth structure to be removed.
How will I feel after receiving dental veneers?
After your anaesthetic has worn off, you may have a little soreness around your gums and possibly some temporary tooth sensitivity. Any discomfort should disappear quite quickly, and you can go about your everyday activities.
If you experience any discomfort after the procedure you should talk to the Painfree Dentistry team immediately. Since they are essentially new coverings for your own teeth it may take a while to adjust to your veneers. Immediately after the treatment it is best to avoid very hot and very cold drinks.
Is there an alternative to porcelain veneers?
A much quicker and less expensive alternative to porcelain veneers, composite veneers are sculpted on to your teeth by your dentists and hardened with a special light. Although they do not last as long, and may require replacement every couple of years, composite veneers may be an ideal solution for teeth with small chips and cracks, or to fill a tiny gap between teeth.
What are Lumineers veneers ?
Just 0.2mm thick, Lumineers preserve more of your natural tooth structure than traditional veneers. Needing little or no tooth structure to be removed, your Lumineers procedure can often be carried out without the need for anaesthetic and unlike traditional veneer techniques, is also reversible.
How long do dental veneers last?
Depending on the quality of material used, as well as how you look after them, porcelain dental veneers can last for many years. Just like normal teeth, your veneers will require brushing twice a day, flossing at least once a day, and regular check-ups with your hygienist at Painfree Dentistry Parramatta.
How much do dental veneers cost?
The cost of your dental veneers procedure will depend on your individual situation, as well as how many veneers are being placed, and whether you choose porcelain or composite resin veneers.
