If you have lost teeth then you should be thinking about replacing them. One of the most popular and most affordable ways to fill in any gaps is with dentures. At Painfree Dentistry we offer a variety of tooth replacements that include partial dentures.
What is a Partial Denture?
A denture is a tooth replacement appliance that you wear in your mouth. It is a removable device that will fill in the gaps in your teeth while supporting your lips and cheeks. The support is needed because if missing teeth are not filled it can change the way your face looks. Dentures prevent this from happening.
A partial denture is recommended for patients who have lost teeth but who also have some of their own natural teeth left. The denture will have a base that is the color of the gums and then artificial teeth will be attached to it. The denture will stay in place because clasps will hold the denture to the existing teeth. Gaps will be filled and the natural teeth will be kept in their correct position.
What Partial Dentures are Available?
Chrome – Chrome and metal dentures are very strong and durable. These have been reported to be stronger and more comfortable to wear than the acrylic ones. That is personal choice and it can be discussed with the dentist. Clasps are used to hold the denture in place. If you are allergic to metals there are options available and the dental team will discuss this with you.
Acrylic – To create acrylic dentures artificial teeth will be attached to an acrylic base. Clasps will hold the denture in the correct place.
Flexible – Flexible dentures are very comfortable to wear. One of the reasons for this is because there is no need for a metal clasp. The dentures will grip the gums. Dentists will recommend this type of denture if you have one or a couple of teeth missing.
Clear Clasp – This is an option for the patients who do not want metal to be seen on the front teeth. A white or clear clasp can be used so the denture looks more natural.
