Fear and anxiety about the dentist is an issue for so many people. We understand how scary and stressful it can be. At Painfree Dentistry we want out patients to have a positive experience. We want out patients to stop feeling dread about their dental visits. That is why we offer Penthrox. This is a solution to ease those unpleasant feelings so you can feel more relaxed in the dentist’s chair.
What is Penthrox?
Penthrox also known as the green whistle. It is an inhaler that is used to reduce feelings of anxiety and pain. The inhaler is self-administered and will make you feel more relaxed during treatment. This inhaler will give you relief after around six to ten breaths. Penthrox is used because it acts fast, is effective and is completely safe to use.
How Do You Use the Inhaler?
To use the inhaler, you will hold it up to your mouth and then begin to breathe through it. The dentist will give you this inhaler to keep throughout the appointment so you can use it when you need it. You can pause treatment and use the inhaler at any time.
If you use Penthrox during your appointment you will need someone to drive you home.
Can I Use Penthrox?
It is important to tell your dentist if you feel stress and anxiety. This way you can be offered solutions so you can feel better and more at ease. Once your dentist is aware they will discuss what options are available to you. Certain issues can arise which mean Penthrox isn’t the best option for you. The type of issues you will need to discuss are:
- Kidney problems
- Liver problems
- Medications you are already taking
Discuss any of the issues mentioned with your dentist. It is important that your dentist is aware of these as it may affect the treatment. Your dentist will talk to you about your relevant medical history to make sure no issues are missed.
